As part of our Safe & Secure programme highlighted in our 5 year Business Plan Enterprising Bathgate has teamed up with Lothian and Borders Police to launch a Taxi Marshall Scheme in Bathgate Town Centre.
The scheme uses trained security operators to assist in ensuring that the public are in a safe environment whilst making their way home from a night out.
The scheme, which began on Friday 27th November and continues into the new year, aims to reduce alcohol related violence, disorder and the fear of crime in and around Bathgate Town Centre by utilising the Marshalls to ensure that the public are kept safe whilst enjoying the vibrant night life. Additional police officers will also be on patrol during peak times focusing on Bathgate Town Centre and will be in direct contact with the Taxi Marshalls.
Constable Iain Wells, Lothian and Borders Police said:
'Initiatives such as high visibility police patrols and Taxi Marshalls all contribute to making our streets safer. We are committed to working together with our partners to ensure that people can go out and have an enjoyable, relaxing time in Bathgate reassured that their safety is a priority for the police. Any contribution which can directly assist us in reducing violence and increasing community safety is of great value and will only serve to enhance our service'. |
